Design/Management Europe 14 (September 7-8, 2010 ~ London UK)
Design is now recognized as an enabler of business transformation, because design leads change, which is critically needed to save and solve our future. It is a solution that addresses problems, and problems behind problems. Design connects businesses to their customers, and customers to new products, services and experiences. Design is a process tool, an innovation tool, a tool to build experiences, and a transformation tool. Transformation is as much a way of thinking as it is a result.

Design for Effect (June 11-12, 2009 - Malmö, Sweden EU)
User experience and interaction design has finally worked its way into the companies. And with the economic downturn, the challenge for us is simple but vast: create user experiences that are the difference between success and failure. It is the time for us as an industry to step in, step up and show them what the fuzz is all about. It is time to become really useful to our clients and our companies.
From Business to Buttons is the meeting place in Europe for interaction designers, business strategist and usability experts. If you want to expand your business, and become a leader in the UX field, there is no better place to get the tools and inspiration. Ours is still a small community. By coming together we become bigger and better (and perhaps even more beautiful). We believe that by sharing experiences we strengthen our profession on a global level, which is good for us all.

Sharing design knowledge (October 17 - November 17, 2007 - Malmö, Sweden EU)
Designboost is a completely novel concept on the Swedish design market. It will be annual, different, international and will penetrate questions of current interest on design in a broad perspective and put them on the agenda in the society at large. It consists of three different parts; boost meetings (formerly known as workshops), boost chats (formerly known as lectures) and a boost show (formerly known as exhibition). The boost meetings take place with an invited group of participants while the boost chats and the boost show are open for the public. Designboost is supposed to inject both it's participants and the audience with new ideas, make them ponder, reflect, worry and be amused about what design really is and how it should be used in order to create a better life for people, and a more durable society.

Information Design: Achieving Measurable Results (July 5-7, 2007 - Schwarzenberg, Austria)
The International Institute for Information Design (IIID) is proud to announce Vision Plus 12 at Schwarzenberg, a multi-disciplinary international conference devoted to exploring one of the most critical issues facing communicators today - how to measure the impact of informational communications. This event, the twelfth in the Vision Plus series of symposia, will be held July 5-7, 2007, in Schwarzenberg, located in the Bregenzerwald region, Vorarlberg, Austria. The theme for vision Plus 12 is "measurement". How can we measure and quantify the impact and results of informational communication? This has become a hot topic both in business and academia. This is a daunting challenge.

The idea of setting up the IDA came out of the original Information Design Conference series, organized by the Information Design Journal during the 1980s. In 1990, a group of design practitioners, teachers and researchers thought it would be good to form an Association, both as a talking-shop and to promote the benefits of Information Design to a wider audience. For some years the IDA held well-attended meetings in London, and also got involved in running the Information Design Conferences; then, energies waned, and the IDA became dormant in the UK. Until a year ago! A group of us have come together, using the IDA as our organisational framework, to run this conference. We are already delighted with the international interest that has been shown in this event, and following the conference the IDA will continue with regular meetings.

The future will see the design of information and communication technologies that serve ever more complex purposes and problems. For these technologies, creating user-centered support is particularly challenging when users are domain experts with sophisticated knowledge work and collaborations and do not want to become power users to conduct this work electronically. Goals of this workshop are to define what we already know about communicating complex information to such domain experts and clarify our understanding of what issues urgently need further research.

Social and Human Ideas for Technology (September 28-29, 2006 - Lisbon, Portugal EU)
The main goal of SHIFT is to create an informal space for participating in conversations about technology and the ways it could be used for positive ends. It’s about celebrating technology with people who share common ideas about the future. SHIFT will be based on getting together and having spaces for people to meet up informally. SHIFT will be co-organized by its participants. Since one of the main ideas behind SHIFT is the role of technology in social issues, the organizers of the conference have invited leaders from different areas who have helped create social projects that rely on technology; projects with a strong sense of social justice, projects that helped cross frontiers and that have had a positive impact on the lives of people who use them.

Excellence in Design (May 15-18, 2006: Dubrovnik, Croatia)
"Organization of a DESIGN Conference series is a result of the continued policy and continuous learning process, connecting researchers and practitioners attempting to understand better the problems they are trying to address. The objectives of the DESIGN Conferences tend to be integrative across the various disciplines, to reach the current state-of-the-art, to cover the multidisciplinary aspects of design and to assure high level review policy. All activities in the organization of DESIGN conferences have been oriented to fulfil those goals motivating the researchers and practitioners to participate in these truly international high quality events. Until 2000 the conferences were supported by WDK (Workshop Design-Konstruktion), while the recent events have continued tradition under the sign of the Design Society, providing a forum for cooperative interactions among participants. The DESIGN 2004 Conference has attracted more then 230 participants from 40 countries. The forthcoming DESIGN 2006 Conference is founded on the continuous development of organization and evaluation procedure that resulted in a capacity to deliver procedures and conditions of communicative competence. The Organizational Board invites you to the 9th International DESIGN Conference - DESIGN 2006 to continue the tradition of the previous meetings by presenting your view on the 'EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN'."

Show & Tell: Relationships between Text, Narrative and Image (September 12, 2005 - University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield UK)
"The proverbial picture tells a thousand words. Yet, images are rarely devoid of textual or verbal accompaniment. We use words to describe images, just as we use images to convey stories. Images and text appear in conjunction, and in succession, and these juxtapositions may be read as narratives. In sum, text, image and narrative are nothing less than mutually constitutive."

IIID/AIGA Summer Academy 2005 (July 11-23, 2005 - Free University of Bolzano, Italy EU)
In harmony with the 8th UN Millennium Goal 'Developing a Global Partnership for Development', the focus of the IIID Summer Academy are the Cap Verde islands situated in the middle of the Atlantic. Once known as a Portugese station for the slave trade between Africa and America, the Cap Verdes became independent only in 1975 and are struggling hard to improve the economy of the islands and the well-being of its citizens. We asked ourselves: How could information design assist? What for instance could we do to provide school leavers in this underpriviledged part of the world with opportunities leading to a better future? Part of idX (the IIID Information Design Exchange project) within the EU/USA Cooperation Programme in Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training, the summer academy is open to information design students and professionals.

A conference devoted to the new challenges in designing, delivering, and explaining financial information (April 27, 2005 - Boston MA, USA)
In financial services, like in nature, interesting things happen at the boundaries. As banking, brokerage, insurance, and consumer finance continue to converge, financial products mix and morph. Financial firms woo customers with hybrid accounts that combine diverse assets. Healthcare providers offer new plans which combine insurance with savings accounts. And there’s dramatic change in the communications channels, too. More and more investors are getting financial information and conducting transactions over the internet. Some firms are able to deliver account information to cell phones and other mobile devices. Never have investors had so much choice. And never have the communications challenges been so exciting and daunting.

Designing Interactive Systems: Across the spectrum (August 1-4, 2004 - Cambridge, MA, USA)
"DIS2004 aims to facilitate, nurture and encourage the growth of a new community. This community has emerged in response to the opportunities and challenges presented by new and future interactive systems. (...) DIS2004 will embrace the diversity of interests in this new community, crossing the spectrum of contributing disciplines including business, technology and engineering, psychology, interaction, design, expressive media and culture. DIS2004 is a step towards achieving a fusion of art and science, the white light of a spinning colour wheel. In the same way that works of art are produced from a palette of paints, interactive systems are created through the work of a ‘palette’ of specialists. The role of design is spread across a spectrum of disciplines, each providing their own knowledge and techniques. Designers of interactive systems work with and through a medium of technical arts blending and exploring synergies from diverse areas."
