The Web and Beyond 2008

Mobility (May 22, 2008 - Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam NL)
The Web is in a state of motion: no longer is it primarily being accessed through PCs, but more and more does it find its way into our phones, our cars, on the streets and in buildings. And once there, the Web is interacting with us in smarter and richer ways than before. Bluetooth or RFID in a busstop personalises the map and advertisements, your friend’s car knows today’s best way to your home, your mobile phone suggests the best place to eat tomorrow, oh, and your online best friends (all 176 of them) will know you have been there before you have a chance to tell them. Mobility traditionally refers to characteristics in devices to handle information access, communication and business transactions while in a state of motion. What if we place users at the center of attention? What does mobility mean to humans in a state of motion who interact with technological devices in their surroundings? The Web and Beyond 2008: Mobility, a conference organized by Chi Netherlands, explores.

It is about balance in our rapidly evolving field, the balance between individuals and groups, collocated and remote, stationary and mobile, in both our local and global communities. CHI 2008 will be held in Florence, Italy, birthplace of the Renaissance, and home to great artists and scientists. This is the city of Leonardo Da Vinci, who spoke of balance in saying “where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art."s

Cognitive Task Analysis Course

Klein Associates - September 28-30, 2004 - Dayton, Ohio
"In order to understand how people act upon the world around them, it is necessary to understand what goes on inside their heads. Particularly when the tasks they are doing are complex, it is not enough to simply observe their behaviors. It is also important to find out how they think and what they know, how they organize and structure information, and what they seek to understand better. Cognitive Task Analysis is a family of methods and tools for gaining access to the mental processes that organize and give meaning to observable behavior. Klein Associates is offering a three-day course that provides an immersion experience in Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA). We have used CTA in over 100 projects and have been developing and refining CTA methods for 25 years. In this course, we will share the lessons we have learned and give you the tools to begin using CTA and its principles in your work."
