Second European IA Summit

(September 30 - October 1, 2006 - Berlin, Germany)
After the success of last year’s Euro IA Summit, it was obvious we had to organise another one this year. In October 2005 IAs from all over Europe came together in Brussels. The theme then was ’Building Our Community’. This year we want to look at what it takes to be an IA in Europe. What are the things that we have in common? What are the specifc issues we have to deal with in our country or our business? How can we extend and build the practice of IA in Europe?

Oz-IA 2006

(September 30 - October 1, 2006: Sydney, Australia)
There has been ongoing demand for Information Architects in the Australian web industry, a demand which hasn't ceased, while at the same time there is scant support for professional development and community development. Although there has been demand for Information Architects, there are few of us here, and most of us don’t get the opportunity to work with, and learn from, our peers. While some of us have been lucky enough to travel to the various international conferences or attend the occasional workshop, we've pretty much learned “on the job”, from books, and from participating in internet forums. The latter means are not entirely satisfying.

SHiFT

Social and Human Ideas for Technology (September 28-29, 2006 - Lisbon, Portugal EU)
The main goal of SHIFT is to create an informal space for participating in conversations about technology and the ways it could be used for positive ends. It’s about celebrating technology with people who share common ideas about the future. SHIFT will be based on getting together and having spaces for people to meet up informally. SHIFT will be co-organized by its participants. Since one of the main ideas behind SHIFT is the role of technology in social issues, the organizers of the conference have invited leaders from different areas who have helped create social projects that rely on technology; projects with a strong sense of social justice, projects that helped cross frontiers and that have had a positive impact on the lives of people who use them.

Fifth Conference on Design and Emotion

The Design and Emotion Society and Chalmers University of Technology (September 27-29, 2006 - Gothenburg SE, EU)
Emotions arise towards people, towards places, towards food, and towards things. Emotions influence our well-being as well as our purchase decisions. From a design perspective, we need to know more about how artefacts elicit emotions. We also need to know more about the way we can identify the relevant emotional aspects and how we can evaluate the emotional impact of a particular design.
