Advanced Visual Interfaces - International Working Conference in cooperation with ACM-SIGCHI, ACM-SIGMM, SIGCHI Italy (May 23-26, 2006: Venezia, Italy)
"The 8th International Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI 2006) will be held in Venice, Italy, May 23-26, 2006. Started in 1992 in Rome, and held every two years in different Italian towns, the Conference traditionally brings together experts in different areas of computer science who have a common interest in the conception, design and implementation of visual and, more generally, perceptual interfaces, with a growing interest for mobile devices such as smartphones, palmtops and PDAs, in the framework of traditional and emerging environments, such as ubiquitous and pervasive computer applications. A special theme of this edition, suggested by the beautiful town hosting the conference, will be the design of advanced interfaces for art, cultural heritage and tourism. Both formal methods and concrete applications well fit into the framework of the conference, whose program also includes invited talks, given by leaders in the field."

Excellence in Design (May 15-18, 2006: Dubrovnik, Croatia)
"Organization of a DESIGN Conference series is a result of the continued policy and continuous learning process, connecting researchers and practitioners attempting to understand better the problems they are trying to address. The objectives of the DESIGN Conferences tend to be integrative across the various disciplines, to reach the current state-of-the-art, to cover the multidisciplinary aspects of design and to assure high level review policy. All activities in the organization of DESIGN conferences have been oriented to fulfil those goals motivating the researchers and practitioners to participate in these truly international high quality events. Until 2000 the conferences were supported by WDK (Workshop Design-Konstruktion), while the recent events have continued tradition under the sign of the Design Society, providing a forum for cooperative interactions among participants. The DESIGN 2004 Conference has attracted more then 230 participants from 40 countries. The forthcoming DESIGN 2006 Conference is founded on the continuous development of organization and evaluation procedure that resulted in a capacity to deliver procedures and conditions of communicative competence. The Organizational Board invites you to the 9th International DESIGN Conference - DESIGN 2006 to continue the tradition of the previous meetings by presenting your view on the 'EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN'."

Pervasive Mobile Interaction Devices (May 7th, 2006: Dublin, Ireland)
"Mobile devices have become a pervasive part of our everyday lives. People have mobile phones, smartphones and PDAs which they take with them almost everywhere. So far these mobile devices have been mostly used for phone calls, writing short messages and organizer functionalities. Today we see that the development of context-aware services for mobile phones which often take the user, her situation and location into account. But why not use these devices for interactions with the real world, as a mediator between the virtual and the user’s world? While certain research domains within the fields of mobile applications and services advance at an amazing speed (e.g. context-aware services on mobile devices, using sensors in mobile phones), the areas of pervasive mobile user interfaces, mobile devices as interaction devices, mobile devices for interactions with the physical world and user experiences in this field are still rather limited."
